The Furious 5 and Kurtis Blow return to Manchester

After rocking the Mint Lounge back in September ‘09 (sold out on a Wednesday night!) the illustrious crew return to The Music Box on the second leg of their Legend to Legend World Tour on 20th March.

The Furious 5 are indeed legends in the game.  Coming to prominence alongside a certain Grandmaster Flash, The Furious 5 became a household name on the strength of records like Freedom, The Message, White Lines, Superrappin, Beat Street, New York, New York, Survival, Scorpio and Larry’s Dance Theme to name a few……

The Message was the first Hip Hop track that contained social commentary, and is in the archives of the library of congress for its social relevance back in the day. It’s considered one of the most important tracks of the last 50 years.

Kurtis Blow, one of the founders and creators of recorded rap, stands as a leader of the generation of rappers with street sense, social criticism, and commercial savvy, a timeless artist and hip hop legend. In 1979, at the age of twenty, Kurtis Blow became the first Rapper to be signed by a major label. His track If I Ruled the World was top 5 on the Billboard’s R & B chart, the track later ressurected in sample form by Nas, taking it to the top spot in 1997.

Equally at home behind the desk, Kurtis provided production for the likes of The Fat Boys, Run DMC, Love Bug Starski, Sweet Gee, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Full Force, Russell Simmons and Wyclef Jean.

A true pioneer throughout his career, Mr Blow blazed a trail in taking hip hop into mainstream culture;

First Hip Hop artist to sign to a Major label
First certified gold record for Hip Hop
First Hip Hop artist to tour US & Europe
First Hip Hop artist to record a national tv commercial (Sprite)
First Hip Hop artist to use the drum machine, sample & sample loop
First Hip Hop music video (Basketball)
First Hip Hop producer (Rap’s producer of the year in 1983 85)
First Hip Hop artist featured in a soap opera (One Life to Live)
First Hip Hop millionaire

Kurtis Blow helped legitimize Hip Hop. Straight up!

Support on the night comes from some of the North West’s finest DJ Gripper (ATIC Records)

Young Win – Fuck a Dresscode

young-winJust came across this street album and had to post about it not because i realy like it, but one song got me going. “Fuck a dresscode” got a nice club fealing on it, other then that I can’t tell if it’s a mixtape worth listening to, there were like 5 skits intro and outro. One ore two other songs got me listening but..

Hope Young Win steps up his game and deliver what I think he can, Don’t get me wrong it’s not bad, it just dident do it for me this thime!
